Both the author in the reading passage and the speaker in the lecture talk about the sale of fossils. Yet their viewpoints contract with each other. While the author mentions three advantages of the selling of the fossils, the speaker thinks otherwise, contending that the benefits are actually greatly overweight.

First of all, while the writer states that the public will suffer because of the loss of the opportunities of seeing the fossils in the museums, the speaker presents opposing discourse to such a belief, reasoning that the public will gain great exposure of the fossils instead. Because there are more and more fossils are available to purchase by the collectors and schools will not be able to routinely buy the fossils, the chances of viewing the fossils will increase for sure.

Secondly, the writer indicates that scientists are likely to lose access to some of the most important fossils. However, as opposed to the conviction, the speaker argues that the fossils have to be examined and tested in detail before selling to the private collectors. Under this circumstance, the fossils will be passed to the scientists first. Therefore, the scientists will not miss anything important.

Thirdly, presented by the speaker to diminish the authenticity in the reading passage is the argument that the selling of fossils, at least, make more fossils be found. The speaker contends that there are more fossils are undiscovered. As a result, even though the fossils might be destroyed by the collectors, it still can bring something valuable to the researchers of fossils.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

Students are more influenced by their teachers than by their friends.

Young people are considered to be easily affected by anyone or anything that is around them, including their teachers and their friends. Some people believe that students are more influenced by their teachers than by their friends, while others think otherwise and contend that friends definitely play a more important role in students’ lives. As far as I am concerned, friends are able to make a greater impact on students than teachers do.

First of all, teenagers tend to care about other same-age people, therefore, they are more likely to be influenced by their friends. Because of the hormone which is inside the body during the process of growth, teenagers not only care about themselves but also other teenagers as well. Under this circumstance, students would like to follow what other students are doing. That is to say, they follow the trend or something that they think is cool. For example, it is not so difficult to see that, in a certain period, a group of teenagers wear hoodies at school. Then, after a few months, virtually all of the students wear caps on the campus. Since teenagers care about what other teenagers are wearing, they are deeply influenced by their friends.

Secondly, adolescents trust their friends more than their teachers, so it is not possible that the teachers are able to generate enormous impact on adolescents. If a person does not believe in someone, then it is quite impossible that the person will make any changes because of that one. According to the youth psychology, adolescents takes their friends more serious than other characters. Because their friends are at the same age with them, young people believe that there is no gap between them. Due to the belief in the close relationship, their friends are undoubtedly capable of yielding the influence on the youngsters.

According to the above statement, it is clear that students can be more affected by their friends than their teachers because of their care and trust. Parents, as a result, should always keep an eye on children's friends and social activities.
