Both the author in the reading passage and the lecturer talk about salvage logging. Yet their viewpoints contrast with each other. While the author mentions three advantages of salvage logging, the lecturer thinks otherwise, contending that it might cause longer-term damage to the environment and also the economic benefit is questionable.

First of all, while the writer states that salvage logging can make room for fresh growth immediately, the speaker presents opposing discourse to such a belief, reasoning that the process of decomposition of the dead woods is beneficial. By decomposing, the dead trees will provide nutrients to the soil. Therefore, new trees are allowed to grow again there.

Secondly, the writer presents that removing rotting wood help minimize the danger of insect infestation. However, as opposed to the conviction, the speaker argues that  the spruce bark beetle have not caused any damage to the environment for over a hundred of years. The speaker says that the decaying wood is not only a suitable habitat for bad insects, but also for birds which are important contributors for the area. Plus, the harm from the insects is smaller than the harm from the salvage logging.

Thirdly, pointed out by the speaker to diminish the authenticity in the reading passage is the argument that the influence on economy is small and it will not last long, while the writer states that salvage logging is good for the economy. Because the workers for salvage logging are temporary, it will be able to help create additional jobs. Besides, outsiders are more likely to be hired, so the locals will not obtain many opportunities.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

In order to be well-informed, a person must get information from many different news resources.

Some experts state that the 21th century is so-called an era information explosion. Humans can understand a considerable of things in an easy way. Although some people believe that an individual has to get information from many new sources, others think otherwise and contend that a person can know all the things from one informative resource. As far as I am concerned, to be a well-informed person, a large amount of resources are needed.

First of all, there is not a single resource that is able to offer all kinds of information, therefore, the individuals must collect the news from many different places. That is to say, it is impossible to receive all the knowledge or events from just one resource since that each resource has its own profession. For example, CNN, the famous news channel, is able to provide the audience worldwide the latest news that happened in the world. However, people who would like to know how to make sweet desserts might not obtain any related things from CNN. They probably check out the cooking program or purchase a book that contains the recipe instead. Consequently, to be well-informed, individuals must reach many recourses.

Secondly, information might be fake, so it is vital for people not to rely on just one resource. To be well-informed means to know something correctly. Nowadays, everyone is allowed to post their stories or experiences online. Under this circumstance, many information may not be true because those words are not examined. For instance, people in this generation enjoy watching their friends' posts on Facebook. But the information there might be incorrect, and people who are not capable of distinguishing right and wrong would learn a lot of things but most of them are not true at all. As a result, people should not just be informed by one resource.

In conclusion, to be a well-informed person, many different and professional resources are necessary. Even though it is convenient for people to be able to reach fresh news and useful information in a variety way, people should not forget to examine the reality in order to be really well-informed.
