Teachers are essential characters in lives. They educate people knowledge and shape the way people think. Some individuals believe that people today do not respect teachers as much as they did in the past, whereas others have the opposite opinions. As far as I am concerned, people today do not show their respects to teachers as much as they did before. I am willing to discuss the reasons further in the following essay.

First of all, thanks to the technological advancement that occurs rapidly in modern society, people do not respect their teachers. Nowadays, newly invented technology and convenient devices allow students to learn by themselves. Therefore, students do not rely on teachers to obtain the knowledge anymore. Instead, plenty of websites offer learning materials to all kinds of learners and gradually replace teachers. For example, students can learn the history of a country without a history teacher. Also, some videos teach the audience how to dance and thus they can learn at home. Under this circumstance, teachers’ importance has reduced drastically. As a result, people are unlikely to respect them as much as they did before.

In addition, there are too many teachers nowadays, so people do not respect them as much as they did before. Over these few years, the amount of teacher has increased greatly. However, the birth rate is decreasing. That is to say, the supply of teacher is comparatively higher than the demand. Consequently, teachers become less valuable than they were in the past. For instance, unlike the teachers in the past who were treated well by the parents, teachers today can be replaced immediately by other teachers if the parents do not like them. Since teachers are no longer rare, they are not as respectable as they were before.  

As has been demonstrated above, it is clear that people today do not respect teachers as much as they were before. Because of the improvement of technology and the relatively large number of teachers, they have lost respect from the society and are prone to be superseded someday.
