Both the author in the reading passage and the lecturer talk about the "let it burn" policy and the forest fire in Yellowstone in 1988. Yet their viewpoints contrast with each other. While the author mentions three damages of the "let it burn" policy, the lecturer thinks otherwise, contending that the fire is a nature part of the ecological system and it is creative.

First of all, while the writer states that one third of the Yellowstone park had been scorched because of the fire in 1988, the speaker presents opposing discourse to such a belief, reasoning that the big fire created new opportunities for the vegetation and made the park more diverse. The speaker says that some land of the park has been colonized by new plants that could not grow before, and some places has been taken over by small plants which need open and unshadow environment. Besides, the seeds of some plants are able to generate because of the high temperature.

Secondly, the writer mentions that the wildlife was affected as well. As opposed to the conviction in the article, the speaker argues that the fire recover the Yellowstone park in return and also create a ideal habitat for the animals such as rabbits and hares. Once the amount of the animals become larger, the predators of them also increase. Under this situation, the food chain will be stronger.

Thirdly, the writer indicates that the fire compromised the value of the park as a tourist attraction. However, pointed out by the speaker to diminish the authenticity in the article is the argument that the fire do not happen every year, therefore it will not be a serious problem. The speaker adds that the tourists come back to the park next year and such big fire has not been seen again.

There are a lot of means for the parents to help their children do the preparation for future. Some of them will suggest to be the volunteer in the libraries or hospitals, some will recommend to join a school club and others might tell their children to just focus on the schoolwork. I believe that one of the best ways that parents can help their teenage children prepare for adult life is to encourage them to take a part-time job. Because they will understand what the responsibility is and what the society looks like.

First of all, from doing a part-time job, the children can learn the importance of being  responsible. Because they need to care about what they are doing to the customers and also have to be responsible for the results. For example, when the youngsters works in a convenient store, they will find that they must be very careful about all the things they do for the consumers and always put an eye on the cashier they use during their work.

Secondly, the children will be closer to the society when they start taking a part-time job. Before then, the only places they spend time on might be only the schools and homes, it is essential to take a look the community which is highly related to us. For instance, by having a job in the bookstore, the youngster will have the chances to observe the people and experience the so-called "society". Understanding it is undoubtedly a important process.

Even though some parents think that doing a part-time job is a wast of time for children, I think otherwise. I consider that we can obtain so much valuable things that we might not be able to gain from the class from the part-time jobs. If the parents can educate their children how to achieve a perfect time management, there will not be any problems and worries.

According to the above explanations, since the children can learn about the responsibility and the society, I agree with the statement that having a part-time job is a best choice for children to prepare for the adult lives.
