Both the author in the reading passage and the lecturer talk about the decline of birds. Yet their viewpoints contrast with each other. While the author mentions three explanation of how the growth of human and the increase in agriculture and the pesticide can be harmful to the birds, the lecturer think otherwise, contending that those statements are not convincing.
First of all, while the writer states that the birds' natural habitats will continue to disappear because of the expansion of human settlement, the speaker presents opposing discourse to such a belief, reasoning that the urban development, in turn, will create a better and larger habitat and the population of birds will increase. The speaker says that there will be more and more pigeons on the streets and the hawks will also appear in the city. He argues that some of the birds will decrease, however, other kinds of them will increase.
Secondly, the writer thinks that the growth of the agriculture will result in the destruction of birds' living areas. But, as opposed to the conviction, the speaker argues that the lands used for agriculture will be lesser and lesser. A kind of new crops which is productive will be introduced and therefore the food resource will become more without converting the lands to agriculture use.
Thirdly, the writer indicates that the birds will die due to the utility of pesticides. However, presented by the speaker to diminish the authenticity is the argument that people are aware of the harm from using pesticides, so two changes are made. One change is the development of the new and less toxic pesticides, and the other one is the more pest-resisted crops which will be dangerous to the birds.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Teachers should not make their social or political views known to students in the classroom.
Teachers take an enormous responsibility of education. They not only teach the professional knowledge to the kids but also educate the attitude toward life and this world.
Some people believe that teachers should not talk about their social or political viewpoints in the classroom; However, I disagree with this statement and consider that there are some reasons for the teachers to do so.
First of all, teachers should teach students how to judge things, and making their social or political views known can help them achieve this aim. For example, if there is a social event happened in the city, the teachers can teach students to distinguish what is correct and what is incorrect by presenting their perspective on that event. Besides, Using a real story that is known by all the students can be every effective on forming their judgment.
Secondly, teachers have to encourage students sharing their own ideas, and offering some comments on the social or political events will help them to do so. For instance, nowadays, because students are quite unlikely to talk about their opinions in class, teachers can stimulate the discussion by starting from themselves. If the teacher begin to tell about their viewpoints on social or political news, the students may follow.
Thirdly, teachers need to make their lectures not so boring, and sharing the thoughts of social or political views will be a nice method. Take my experience as an example, I always fell asleep in classes except my math class. Because my math teacher loved to tell what he thought about the political news as a short break during the lecture, I did not feel boring at all and instead I could be more concentrate on the lessons.
In conclusion, because teachers have to teach students how to make a judgment and have to make students be willing to share and need to try to give an interesting lesson, I disagree with the statement that teachers should not show their social or political views to students in the classroom.
