Both the author in the reading passage and the lecturer talk about professors’ appearing on TV programs. Yet their viewpoints contrast with each other. While the author mentions three advantages of professors’ appearing on TV, the lecturer thinks otherwise, contending that the benefits should be questioned.

First of all, while the writer states that appearing on TV can acquire more reputations, the speaker presents opposing discourse to such a belief, reasoning that the professors will not be viewed as serious scholars. Professors who appear on TV will be regarded as entertainers instead of educators. Due to this, they are not able to receive money for doing the researches. Besides, they will not be invited to important academic conferences either.

Secondly, the writer indicates that the reputations of the universities will also  increase. However, as opposed to this conviction, the speaker argues that appearing on TV will take a lot of time of professors. They need time for doing the rehearsal and making-up. Under this situation, the professors will not be capable of spending much time on meeting students and doing researches. In addition, they have less time on dealing with the school business.

Thirdly, the writer points out that the public will gain from those professors attending the TV programs. But, presented by the speaker to diminish the authenticity is the argument that the networks just want the academic titles  instead of the serious academic contents. Therefore, from the TV programs, the public will gain only brief introductions which are not much different from the reports made by the reporters having done only a little homework.

The best way to travel is in a group led by a tour guide.

Travelling has already been a common recreation for most people in the world. People tends to leave their home and experience a fully different kind of life style in other places. Some believe that the best way to travel is in group which is led by a tour guide, others think otherwise, contending that travel within a group will yield a lot of questions. As far as I am concerned, traveling in a group is not the best choice for travelers.

First of all, travelling with other people is not a nice way because people will not have freedom. That is to say, people will not be able to go anywhere they what to go. Freedom is the most essential elements when visiting other countries. However, with the schedule that is strictly planned by the travel agency, people will not be allowed to do the things they want. For example, when people travel to a city that they have not been before, they will be very curious about the local food and would like to have a try. But, unfortunately, they might not be capable of eating the delicious dishes there since other restaurant has already been reserved by the travel agent. Therefore, it is clear that a journey without freedom is awful.

Secondly, people who travel in a group will have fewer opportunities to deeply learn the travel spots. To understand a place, it takes communication with the native people. The people travelling with a group will only have the chance to live in a hotel instead of the guesthouses which are run by the locals. Under this circumstance, people not only lose a chance to have a talk with the local people but also may miss some must-go bars where the residents love to have a drink. Consequently, without the connection to the people who live there, there will not be unforgettable left behind by the travelers.

As has been demonstrated above, it is undoubted that traveling within a group is not the best way for people. Travelling is a valuable process of self-learning. I believe that travelling without a group can make people obtain more of the true value of travel.
