Both the author in the reading passage and the speaker talk about the graded school system. Yet their viewpoints contrast with each other. While the author presents the origin of graded school and introduces this system in detail, the speaker contends that the graded school system needs to be reviewed and mentions several disadvantages.

First of all, the writer introduces the three parts of graded schools, which are primary grades, intermediate grades and secondary grades. However, the speaker casts doubt on it and indicates that this system does not count on the difference in individual learners. The speaker points out that there are socially, physically and mentally differences among all the children. For example, there is a significant difference in maturity between boys and girls. But, all the students are still in the same group. Therefore, the speaker disagrees with this system.

In addition, the writer also indicates that, in the graded school system, students may be asked to repeat the year when they do not meet the requirement for a particular grade. As opposed to this conviction, the speaker says that repeating the same year makes students feel boring, and thus, contribute to a higher drop rate. As a result, the speaker thinks that to set the requirement for a certain grade is not a positive method. Besides, the speaker explains that to learn fast, students need a great amount of time and repetition on the knowledge they have known.

Many people have learned a foreign language in their own country; others have learned a foreign language in the country in which it is spoken. Which is better?

In order to be competitive among so many outstanding individuals, learning a foreign language is a nice approach. Some people believe that learning foreign language in their home countries is better, whereas other people consider that learners should study in the country in which the foreign language is spoken. As far as I am concerned, it is better to learn a foreign language in the area where it is used. I am willing to discuss the reasons further in the following easy.

First of all, learners will learn the new language more efficiently because of the environment. In an environment that only contains the foreign language, people are able to learn faster. Due to the long-term exposure to the broadcasts in the public transportations and the conversations made by local people in the restaurant, learners will naturally build up the fundamental sense to the new language. Even though they did not understand the meaning thoroughly at the time they saw or heard, it is easier for people to learn the foreign language based on the familiarity. For example, when learners are memorizing a word, they might be capable of doing it in a short time if they have seen or heard it before. By contrast, if people study in their home countries, they do not possess opportunities of receiving so many memories about the foreign language. As a result, learning in their home country decreases the efficiency of learning.

In addition, learning abroad will make learners learn more completely. To learn a foreign language well, not only do the learners need to know the grammars and vocabulary in the books, but also they have to be familiar with the words that are used only in speaking or certain situations. With the interactions and conversations with native speakers, people can learn so many sentences that are not mentioned in the text books. Under this circumstance, they are able to be fluent in using the foreign language. That is to say, people who learn without practically speaking to the native speakers have difficulties in making a perfect communication.

As has been demonstrated above, it is clear that study the foreign language in that foreign country is essential. Not only people will learn more efficiently, but also they will learn completely. Consequently, in order to do well in a certain language, studying abroad is necessary.
