Both the author in the reading passage and the lecturer in the lecture talk about the invasion of zebra mussel in the North America. Yet their viewpoints contrast with each other. While the author states that the invasion cannot be stopped at all, the lecturer thinks otherwise, contending that it is just because people do not have the knowledge to stop them.

First of all, while the writer mentions that it is impossible to stop the zebra mussel since they are transported by the ships from Europe to North America, the speaker presents opposing discourse to such a belief, reasoning that the zebra mussel are not able to survive in the salt water, therefore, they will die when the people arrive at North America and empty the water on the ship to the ocean.

Second, as opposed of the conviction in the reading passage, the speaker argues that the zebra mussel only dominate the habitat in the beginning. In other words, as the time goes by, they will be eaten by a kind of birds eventually.

Third, presented in the lecture to diminish the authenticity is the argument that the zebra will generate the nutrient for the fish in the bottom of the sea, as a result, the fish will grow better due to the zebra mussel's invasion. The speaker thinks even though the zebra mussel will cause a decline in the overall fish population, they do have a positive effect on the new habitat ecosystem.
