Both the author in the reading passage and the lecturer talk about the device, burning mirror, made by the ancient Greek. Yet their viewpoints contrast with each other. While the author mentions three reasons why the burning mirror was a myth, the lecturer thinks otherwise, contending that those explanations are not convincing.

First of all, while the writer states that the ancient Greeks were not technologically advanced enough to make such a devise, the speaker presents opposing discourse to such a belief, reasoning that instead of using a huge single sheet, it was possible to make it with dozens of small pieces of copper, and the Greeks knew about this technology. Therefore there was no problem for them to create the mirror.

Secondly, as opposed to the conviction in the reading passage, the speaker argues that the experiment in the article is under the condition that the object is completely wooden, however, the Greeks not only utilized wood but also a sticky substance, called pitch, which can catch the fire quickly, to make the fire in seconds. Once the pitch is on fire, it will easily spread to the wood.

Thirdly, presented to diminish the authenticity of the reading passage is the argument that Because the Romes had already been familiar with the flaming arrows, the burning mirror would be more surprising and effective since people are not able to see the race from mirror and, as a result, they would be harnessed by the Greeks for sure.

Due to the highly technological improvement, there is undoubtedly an enormous change of human's lives. While some people think that with the easy assesses to the internet, it will definitely be more convenient for us to receive and deliver information and messages, however, on the other hand, others contend that the convenience will bring harm to us in some aspects at the meanwhile. Surely, educating children will be a harder work for both the teachers and the parents than before, because the devises which are brought out by the new technology nowadays will cause distraction on learning and addiction to the products.

First of all, given that there is almost no difficulties for us to connect to the internet, children, with a huge curiosity to the unknown big world, are more likely to spend time on their cell phone or computers instead of books, which cause an distraction on the class or homework. For example, it is not surprising that students use their smart phones to watch dramas while the teachers are giving a lesson, or it is also seemed to be normal that children are used to surfing on the internet for a long time before they start to do their homework.

Secondly, once something makes children feel interested and enjoyable, it may result in an addiction to the something if they are not capable of controlling themselves. Addiction is a worse circumstance since it will lead to a waste of time and eventually a life without any meanings. For example, many young boys would love to play the online games just for a rest in the beginning, however, as time goes by, they will found that they can't help but eager to play those games again and again.

According to the above statement, from my perspective, I believe that because of the cause of distraction on learning and the addiction to the products, it is not a simple task to educate children.
