Both the author in the reading passage and the lecturer talk about the settlements of Chaco Canyon. Yet their viewpoints contrast with each other. While the author mentions three theories to explain the settlements, the lecturer thinks otherwise, contending that those arguments are not convincing.

First of all, while the writer states that the Chaco structures were for housing hundreds of people, the speaker presents opposing discourse to such a belief, reasoning that there were many fireplaces inside the structures. If they were residential for many people, there must have a lot of fireplaces. However, in the largest house, the fireplaces there can be used only for 10 families.

Secondly, the writer thinks that the structures were used to store food such as grain maize. However, as opposed to this conviction, the speaker argues that there were not any traces of maize and the containers for maize from the excavations. Instead, there were maize and the containers of maize being found on the floor. Therefore, the second theory from the reading passage is not supported by the evidence.

Thirdly, ceremonial centers were regarded as the function of those houses. But, presented by the speaker to diminish the authenticity is the arguments that those structures were more likely used to be the places for regular trash. Since there were a great amount of sands, stones and construction tools being found there, they may be the trash hips of construction tools. Therefore, the broken pots in Pueblo Alto were not good evidence for supporting the ceremonies.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

Technology has made children less creative than they were in the past.

Due to the technological advancement, human's lives have greatly change. Some people believe that technology has made children more creative than they were in the past, whereas other people think that the technology does not. As far as I am concerned, technology has made young people more creative than they were before. I am willing to discuss the reasons further in the following essay.

First of all, in the present time, technology helps children create what they think in their minds. Unlike in the past when people could only draw or portrait on the paper, there are a great amount of software invented for people to realize their ideas on the computers. For example, Moviemaker and Power director allow children to make videos on their own by adding the music, lyrics and even some special effects. Photoshop and Illustration allow children to design visuals such as photographs and posters by editing the light or making collages of materials. Because of the software, children are capable of putting their imaginations in practical works and become more creative.

In addition, technology serves as an infinite resource that offers children considerable ideas. To be creative, people have to always get in touch with information from every aspect and then they are able to come up with some thoughts in their minds. Nowadays, thanks to the development of technology, people are allowed to upload and share their works online via some social media such as Pinterest, Instagram and Youtube. Because of these websites containing works from all over the world, it is quite convenient and efficient for children to reach lots of nice pictures and excellent videos. By watching other outstanding works, children can stimulate their creativities without a doubt.

As has been demonstrated above, it is undeniable that technology has positive impacts on children's creativities now because technology provides lots of great software and information. We can expect more creative works from our next generation.
