Both the author in the reading passage and the speaker talk about the shortened workweek. Yet their viewpoints contrast with each other. While the author mentions several advantages of shortened workweek, the speaker thinks otherwise, contending that it is not beneficial.

First of all, while the writer states that shortened workweek will increase the profit of the companies, the speaker presents opposing discourse to such a belief, reasoning that the companies will have to spend more money on training new workers. Besides, companies also have to prepare more spaces and more computers for new employees. Therefore, it will force companies spend more and then reduce the profits.

Secondly, the writer indicates that the employment rate will decrease because of the shortened workweek. However, as opposed to this conviction, the speaker argues that there will not be more job available for people since hiring people is costly. As a result, companies will expect that the workers working for four days a week to finish the works that are for five-day workers. Eventually, the four-day workers will be very unpleasant.

Thirdly, the writer points out that it is better to be four-day workers because they have more free time. But, presented by the speaker to diminish the authenticity is the argument that it is risky to choose the option of a four-day workweek. Since the job ability of them will decrease, it is harmful to their advancement of career. Under this situation, the four-day workers will be passed over for the promotion in the companies.

As the time goes by, human's lives have greatly changed. Some people believe that life today is easier and more comfortable than it was when our grandparents were children, whereas other people might believe that life today is more difficult and more uncomfortable. As far as I am concerned, life today is easier and more comfortable. I am willing to discuss the reasons further in the following essay.

First of all, in the present time, the high development of technology has made people's lives easier. Lives in the old days were very inconvenient due to the difficulty in improving technology. For example, in some areas, people had to go to the downtown and lined up for hours to make a telephone call to other people. However, everyone nowadays owns a smartphone in their hands and even are allowed to make audio calls with others. Besides, because of the wide-spread internet and newly invented smartphone applications, people are able to purchase clothes or foods at home without directly going to the shops or restaurants. Therefore, it is undeniable that lives today are easier than before.

Secondly, lives today is more comfortable because of the economic growth. The government invested a great amount of money to the domestic companies over the past few years. Thus, companies are capable of offering high salaries to their employees. With the increasing income, people nowadays can spend money on luxury activities. For instance, they can afford to go abroad and live in the most expensive hotels. Also, having relaxing massages at the spas is no longer a dream to people in this generation. With the economic growth, lives today are definitely more comfortable.

As has been demonstrated above, it is clear that people nowadays live easier and more comfortable lives. Thanks to the technological advancements and economic growth, people are able to enjoy better lives.
